Description
CAPE COD, MA — Coast Guard crews rescued five fishermen from a burning boat 85 miles east of Cape Cod Friday.
The 100-foot trawler Nobska transmitted a notification to the Coast Guard around 5 p.m. Friday evening. When the Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod crews got there, they saw the front half of the boat engulfed in flames.
The Coast Guard crews directed the five fishermen, who were on the other end of the boat, into the water and each of them were hoisted into the rescue helicopter and taken to safety.
Crews had to battle 25 mile per hour winds and 6 foot swells during the rescue.
No one was injured, according to the Coast Guard. No further details were released.
In 2016, the Providence Journal profiled then-captain of the New Bedford based trawler.
