Description
Designed for ladies 12 years of age and older, this 3-hour session highlights the principles of personal defense and use of pepper spray. This course came about after a discussion regarding all of the sub-standard, gimmicky equipment that gets marketed to women under the guise of "self-defense". Frankly, it's insulting to those of us who study the craft and it infuriates us on behalf of the women who think they've been sold something awesome when people are just out there to make a buck and sell based on fear. We hate it. There's also a lot of really, REALLY bad information out there about use of force. Make no mistake, use of pepper spray IS a force escalation measure. Using any less-than-lethal strategy inappropriately can absolutely land you in jail. Claiming self-defense is not a get out of jail free card. The women of The Bulwarks decided it was time to counter some of that bad information, and we built this overview class to introduce women and young ladies to the principles surrounding personal defense. Your instructors are Karen Farthing and Courtney McCarthy-Beadnell. Both of us are combat-tested and battle-trained from deployments in the middle east. Both of us have trained extensively with the best and the brightest in the self-defense industry covering topics from mindset strategies, to medical response, to unarmed defense, and on to pistol, rifle, and shotgun skills. We have definitely been there, done that, and have the t-shirts. We are absolutely committed to making YOU harder to kill - and we don't need to teach you gun skills to make that happen. What you will learn: 1. What does the law ACTUALLY SAY about use of force in self-defense? The KRS is very specific about when you can intervene to stop an illegal act, and what circumstances actually constitute the need for self-defense measures. You will know these things when you leave. 2. How to "look like work" (and what that means) so that the bad guy doesn't choose you as a victim. 3. What is a fighting platform, and how does it benefit you? 4. How do you create and maintain distance from an attacker? The pepper spray instruction answers part of this question, but it does not answer it all. 5. What do you do after an attack? Getting to safety, making a GOOD 911 call, and protecting yourself from being charged after the fact are all things you need to know how to do. 6. Recognizing common attack indicators and making GOOD decisions under stress. We will provide an introduction to an excellent course developed by The Complete Combatant called Image Based Decisional Drills. It isn't the full class - that's an all-day course. But you'll learn a little bit about how YOU make decisions while you're on the clock, and how to make those decisions BETTER. THIS CLASS WILL NOT COVER THE FOLLOWING: 1. Guns 2. Knives 3. Tasers 4. Grappling 5. Striking or kicking 6. Really, any application of violence or deadly force is off the table. This is a class centered around avoidance, deselection, de-escalation, and controlling your environment. It is largely about awareness and GETTING AWAY. This is actually the class we wish we could teach BEFORE we put a gun in anyone's hand. These principles are the foundation and the core of any defensive techniques or strategies you might later choose to learn, and they are so very, very important. They are so important that we are offering the class for FREE. We really want you to have this information. Please join us, and let's help make each other a little harder to kill. Stay Bulwarks Strong! This course is graciously being hosted by The Magnolia Hose, LLC, in Mayfield, Kentucky. Kelly Cathcart is opening her doors for free, which allows us to pass the class on to you at no cost. Magnolia House is a full-service spa and salon, offering best-in-class aesthetic services and products. Please visit the website at http://www.mayfieldmagnoliahouse.com/ for more information. We will be accepting donations at the door to fund the Purchase Players Children's Theatre Camp. Thank you for supporting the youth of Graves County.
