New and recent posts in Southern California fb groups, concerning irn, or young indian ringneck parrots have been and are currently being sold through craigslist, Instagram, Facebook groups, birdmarts and other places. They were amongst other breeds of young birds as well for sale. There are now active vet confirmed cases of PBFD since these birds were sold. Keep your flock safe. Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease (PBFD) is a contagious, fatal viral disease that affects the beak, feathers, and immune system of birds belonging to the Psittacidae family. It is contagious and can be spread to other birds in the home. Please be aware of these and other Avian diseases when looking to purchase a parrot, cages, or any parrot items with birds present. Please do your own research and be prepared to quarantine and test for avian diseases. Ask if the birds have been tested. Do they have documentation? Know the risks of bringing pbfd into your home from used cages and rehomed birds. Talk to your Avian vet if you have any concerns.
