Our millennial neighbors a few doors down hired a magician for one of their kids' birthday celebrations 28 months ago; their kids wanted one of the rabbits, so they "adopted" her. Two weeks later the kids got tired of their latest "shiny object", and the Mom got tired of the rabbit being in the house, so she let it out in their "fenced" backyard. Within one day Penny got out, and was seen hopping about from house to house looking for food, water, and shelter; meanwhile being potential prey to hawks, owls, coyotes, and rattlesnakes. My wife and I already had five rescue cats, but it broke my 63 year old heart (yeah, I'm an old softie!) to see this beautiful creature looking for shelter. I caught her and made a home for her in one of our spare bedrooms, where she's been ever since. She's had regular veterinary care from Northwood Animal Hospital since we got her, including having her nails clipped; when we got her she had already been spayed. Her age is unknown, she weighs ~3.5 pounds. Our circumstances have changed recently and VERY regrettably, we can no longer keep her. If my post is long-winded, it is because I ABSOLUTELY will not give her up to anyone that cannot PROVE that she is going to a loving home, ideally with another rabbit or two to keep her company. Included are a two-story rabbit hutch, 3 litterboxes (she is 100% litterbox trained using fragrance-free newspaper pellets that I change every 24 hours), a supply of hard food and treats, and the remainder of a large container of newspaper pellets and a large container of timothy hay. She is a bit shy, doesn't like to be picked up, but DOES enjoy being gently stroked and petted. She neither bites nor scratches. I hate to take her to even a No Kill Shelter - some big-hearted person please adopt her from us and show her the love and attention that every living thing needs!
