Description
10- year old male Green-Wing Macaw whose name is Moose. He started plucking when I moved from Florida to Tennessee 7 years ago and there was a change in household members. He has always been a nervous bird, even before I brought him home as a chick. He was purchased by someone else first but they brought him back three days later. No one would tell me why although he did seem somewhat traumatized after that 3 days. Some of his feathers try to grow back but he will most often pull them back out. I have tried multiple things but have been unsuccessful in helping with regrowth. The vet gave him a clean bill of health two years ago but did say that since some of his follicles have been damaged, it is unlikely they will ever grow back. He can be unpredictable with people so only EXPERIENCED people with large birds. He tends to be aggressive towards other birds so he and my other birds although stand near each other, they can't get close enough to contact each other. He began to pull out my blue and gold macaw's feathers which is why they were seperated. He is a good boy when he wants to be and is funny with the things he says. HE DOES NOT SWEAR. He comes with his cage (older and the bottom tray is rusted.) If you or someone you know welds, then its an easy fix. (It will need a good wash and hosing off when you get it home.) Also his toys, bowls, and his two perchs will come with him. His diet is Roudy Bush pellets and fresh fruits & veggies with other treats. Birds scream loudly, bite, and can be distructive. Patience and NOT rewarding for this behavior is key to avoid worsening these behaviors. That is a fact of bird ownership. They will also poop on your floor/carpet or where ever they might be. Small rehoming fee of $250 for Moose. Consider other pets in your house to be sure Moose will not be stressed or get hurt. He has not been around children so do not let children near him until you are comfortable with that. Let him settle into your home so he can be familiar with the people. pets, and noises before handling him much so he can smoothly adjust to his new surroundings. He has only been handled by me his whole life so give him ALL the time he needs to adjust as this transition will be stressful for him, TO A GOOD HOME ONLY!!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
