This is a hands-on class! Together we'll talk about the basics involved in getting great portraits outdoors, then we'll go and take photos! If you want to take better portraits of people using natural light, this is your class. We'll start indoors with a discussion on the types of light to work with, how it impacts the photos, and what to do with challenging situations. We'll move on to some examples of great portraits using only window light, then move outdoors and use our model to discuss posing, settings, camera positioning, and much more. The course is focused on hands-on learning with instructor Jerred Z, who has photographed hundreds of portrait sessions professionally using natural light to his advantage. Bring your own camera to practice during the session and also try out a few lens options to try out during the session. Topics Covered: We will talk about the different kind of light that you'll be dealing with as a natural light portrait photographer. Compare and contrast some lens options and how they impact the final photograph. How to pose models to look good in photographs, and how to work with portrait clients in the field. Where to position yourself in relation to your subjects to get the most out of your photographic angles. Portrait composition basics and how to use viewpoint, framing, and the rule of thirds to bring more magic to your photos. Who Should Take This Class? This is for beginning photographers who want to explore a career in portrait photography, or for hobbyists who want to take better photos of their friends and family. This is a beginner's course, but good working knowledge of your camera does help! Required Materials - Bring your own camera! You should come ready with a camera that you intend to take portraits with. Bring your own lens to start, but you'll have the opportunity to try out a "portrait" lens that helps bring a stronger look to your portrait photographs. *Attendees will be invited to the Rockbrook Camera EDU Facebook Group for continued education, conversation and community exclusive to Rockbrook Camera EDU students and instructors.
