Stoughton Man With Hate Group Ties Facing Federal Gun Charges

STOUGHTON, MA — A Stoughton man with ties to a hate group could face up to 10 years in prison after federal prosecutors said he illegally bought two guns and over 100 rounds of ammunition in Brockton from an undercover FBI agent. Michael Robert Moura, 27, was a member of a far right hate group, the Nationalist Social Club, according to an FBI affidavit obtained by Universal Hub. He was arrested Wednesday and charged with possessing firearms by a prohibited person. According to court documents, Moura lost his right to own a gun because of a conviction in April 2020 in Worcester County. Moura pleaded guilty to harassment charges after threatening his ex-girlfriend, according to court documents. Prosecutors said the harassment included cutting his girlfriend's car brake lines while she was at a concert in Worcester. Moura served six months in prison following the conviction. Despite not being allowed to own a gun, Moura spent several months throughout 2020 and 2021 trying to buy one, according to prosecutors. Prosecutors said Moura succeeded on Wednesday, buying a Glock handgun, an assault rifle, pistol and rifle magazines and over 100 rounds of ammunition in a Brockton parking lot. But the person Moura bought the guns from was an undercover FBI agent, prosecutors said. But even before his conviction, Moura was on the FBI's radar because of his membership in the Nationalist Social Club. The group has chapters around the United States and in France, Hungary and Germany. "NSC members consider themselves soldiers fighting a war against a hostile, Jewish-controlled system that is deliberately plotting the extinction of the white race," the Anti Defamation League said in a dossier. "Their goal is to form an underground network of white men who are willing to fight against their perceived enemies through localized direct actions." Moura also helped found Resist Marxism, a precursor to Super Happy Fun America, the group that organized the Straight Pride Parade in Boston in 2019. The group's vice president, Mark Sahady, now faces charges in connection to the Capitol Hill riots on Jan. 6. Maura is being held without bail pending a detention hearing on May 3.
