ANNAPOLIS, MD — Officials said an Annapolis apartment fire displaced one resident, injured one occupant and caused about $50,000 in damage on April 23. The accidental blaze started in the basement with a malfunctioning furnace and a gas leak, investigators explained. Crews noted that they pulled up to the scene on Americana Drive around 12:41 p.m. First responders reported finding smoke rising from the back of the five-story building. Firefighters added that they shut off the gas and called for backup to help evacuate the residence. A team of 60 controlled the blaze in about 25 minutes, a press release informed. BGE eventually let everybody return to the building, the write-up clarified. Flames burned the hands of the injured occupant, the release mentioned. The report advised that the patient did not go to the hospital for their minor injury, however.
