Daily coronavirus case numbers in Colorado have surged over the past several weeks, state public health officials said. Between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday afternoon, 1,572 new cases of the coronavirus were reported in Colorado. As of Thursday, 509,194 cases of the coronavirus have been reported in the state among more than 2,903,219 people who have been tested since the outbreak began, health officials confirmed. Around 27,710 people have been hospitalized. At least half of all new cases are variants, public health officials said. More than 1.8 million — around 40 percent of the state's eligible population — are fully immunized. Around 37 percent of the state's critical care ventilators were in use as of Thursday, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
