BAY AREA, CA — Health care giant Kaiser Permanente, is planning to eliminate more than 200 positions in Northern California, according to multiple reports.
In a recent email, union members were told that some 231 workers would be laid off, but the company has characterized the move as a "staffing reorganization," the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

The SEIU-UHW union, which represents more than 58,000 Kaiser workers in California, told the Chronicle that some front-line health care positions would be eliminated. Workers who transport patients in Walnut Creek and Antioch would be affected as well as admission staff and patient care technicians who provide bedside care in Oakland.
"While these changes will represent a very small percentage of our workforce, we do not undertake them lightly and we always consider the support our valued colleagues will need as a result of these decisions," Kaiser officials said, according to the Chronicle.
