Description

PETALUMA, CA — A Petaluma man was arrested Thursday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance when officers responded to a crash involving multiple vehicles, police said. At 7:02 a.m. Thursday, officers were sent to the crash on East Washington Street at Lakeville Street where 23-year-old Andrew Boyd was involved with two minor collisions, police said. Based on a preliminary investigation, police believe Boyd rear-ended a car causing minor damage. When he opened his driver's side door into oncoming traffic, another car crashed into his door. A passenger in the first car that Boyd rear-ended suffered minor injuries, police said. As Boyd was interviewed he showed symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance and had difficulty maintaining his balance, police said. Officers determined through a series of field sobriety tests that Boyd was too impaired to safely operate a car so he was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI, police said.
