Wonderful dog needing forever home

Description
Originally named Santa's Little Helper (after the dog on The Simpsons), Santa is a wonderful boy who loves going on walks, taking naps and hanging out around the house. He is a loyal, playful man who also loves nesting in fuzzy blankets, sunbathing and cuddling. He is funny and sweet and will want a lot of your attention. He is a lap dog, although he is not the size of a lap dog. He thinks he is a tiny little puppy, he will always curl up in your lap. He is also very athletic and can keep a good pace on jogs. He weighs around 35-40 lbs and he's around eight years old. He has never had any health problems or concerns, he has many good years left in him. We adopted him from the Humane Society in 2015, he was originally from Alabama. With us, he has lived with many other pets so he will be good with other dogs, cats, ferrets and birds. He hasn't been around kids often so we aren't sure how he would behave around them so if you have very young kids, he might not be the best fit for you. He will need to go somewhere with a yard unless you plan on walking him multiple times a day. He will run off if you don't have a fenced in yard or if he's not tied up. He is potty trained and never has accidents. After doing lots of research, we think his breed is Black Mouth Cur, possibly a mix. He has a tracker chip for if he ever gets lost. He is very well mannered and can howl when prompted. He doesn't bark often but stops when scolded if he does. The reason we have to find him a new home is that we are moving to an apartment where he goes over the weight limit for allowed dogs. We are absolutely heartbroken over this, he will only be going to the best of homes. Rehoming fee is negotiable, looking for around $100. We are on a deadline with the move so don't hesitate to reach out if you think you could provide a good home for him. He is a wonderful, loving companion and would be absolutely devoted to his new owners. Please contact me and tell me about yourself, daily life, your home, and the life you could provide for him.
