Extremists often become obsessive over their political views to the point where their politics often define the extremist.
Have you ever been to a ballgame where an over zealous fan behind you just cannot or will not shut up. They may even be rooting for the same team that you are but they just cannot seem to stop chirping at the ref, the coach, the players, they voice their opinion every 38 seconds to the point of annoying every other fan watching the game. That is what a political extremist is to non extremists.
