Description
This is Beya. She is five and a half years old, weighs around 60ish pounds, and is intact (not spayed). She is allegedly a full-blood German Shepherd, but the Craigslist guy we got her from last November didn't have her papers with him because he was moving, and then he never mailed them. So, who knows. Beya is a very sweet girl. She is good with adults and older kids and when you sit down to pet her, she will shower you with very lick-y kisses (our kids are ages 13 to 22; we haven't seen her much with kids younger than that and cannot comment on how she does). She warmed up to us right away and has been friendly ever since. She took a bit longer to get used to our other big dog; but our other dog is something of a weenie despite her size, and Beya likes to be in charge, so eventually they reached a cordial relationship and get along pretty well now unless one of them gets too close to the other's food bowl. Sharing does not appear to be one of Beya's stronger life skills. We didn't care about her purebredness or lack thereof when we got her because we live on acreage and were looking for a dog to (a) keep the coyotes next door from using our chickens as their personal snacks, and (b) keep our other dog, who had just lost her other dog companion, from swirling around in doggy depression. However, the previous owner also told us that Beya was not a barker and that she does great with cats and other small animals, both of which have turned out to be spectacularly disproven. Some prior owner had her debarked. This does not mean she makes no noise, mind you; it just means that the noise she makes sounds almost exactly like Wheezy from Toy Story. We assume this was done due to the fact that she really is quite the chatterbox when she does not have human company with her, which makes her rather unsuitable as a mainly outdoor dog. Also, she loooooves to hunt down animals that are smaller than she is such as cats or chickens, which makes her rather unsuitable for us as a farm dog whose job it is to protect the chickens. It does us no good to have a dog to protect the chickens from the coyotes if the dog is busy dining on the chickens herself. Since February's ice storm, we have been dislocated from our home and have been living at my parents' house (finally moving back this weekend, which is why we need to find a new home for Beya). Beya and our other dog and our kids have all been piled up in the basement for two months, and other than eating my daughter's pajamas when we first arrived, Beya has been no trouble whatsoever inside. I think the jammies were a stress reaction to the new, much smaller environment because she hasn't done it since and hasn't even chewed up the kids' shoes that they leave all over down there or anything. So, to sum up… 1. Beya is the sweetest and most cuddliest dog in the universe and would probably appreciate a home with kids. 2. Beya is all or mostly all German Shepherd with no papers. 3. Beya is five and a half years old and weighs around 60ish pounds. 4. Beya's rabies certificate is good through November 2021. 5. Beya has not been spayed. 6. Beya has been debarked, which makes her bark sound more like a wheeze. (We assume she's been debarked and that's why she sounds like that. I suppose she could just have a super weird voice. She growls just fine.) 7. Beya is ok with other big dogs as long as they don't mind being the not boss. She would probably be very happy to be an only dog. 8. Beya is abysmal with cats. If you want to continue to have cats, please don't take Beya home. 9. Beya loves chickens and thinks they're delicious. She is not a good farm dog. 10. Beya would be an excellent companion dog for a family who has people home a lot and will take her on walks and adventures and things. Beya really is an incredibly sweet girl, and we very much wish we could keep her. However, a farm dog who eats the animals just doesn't work out too well. She would be much happier with someone she can curl up on the couch with and watch TV every night (which she looovvvves to do) and go burn off some energy with on a walk or a run during the day. If this is you, please get in touch. We want her to be happy. Rehoming fee: $200
