Description
Hello,
I have a lesser cockatoo parrot for adoption, he/she is about 15-17 years old. He/she is shy around new people but loves attention. He does have a bad habit of nipping/biting, it happens what seems like randomly to me but sometimes is when he does not want to go back into his cage or other times. He will try to bite when you clean out his cage, as well, so I usually remove him from the cage before cleaning. When he nips/bites, he draws blood, therefore whoever adopts him has to understand that he does this and hopefully is very experienced and would have ways to work around these habits without getting hurt.
He is in the same household as small dogs, but if any animals come near him, he will lunge and bite them, he does not understand his size and that he could get hurt. He would be best in a household with other animals that will leave him alone and not go near him. He is caged whenever he is unsupervised. He is not a feather-plucker which is rare in cockatoos. We have different stands/setups for him to be out of the cage and near you (for example, if you are watching tv or in an office room). He is a parrot, which means that he can be loud at times, so may not be the best for an apartment-situation if your neighbors will get annoyed with loud sounds.
If you are interested in adopting him (there is an adoption fee), send me information about your experience with parrots, the pets you have, and why you would like to adopt him. There will be a legal adoption contract in place, so he cannot be rehired or sold to anyone, so please do not contact me if you think you can resell him for money. I care about him and he deserves a good home.
