Cacao ceremonies were performed by ancient civilizations like the Aztecs and the Mayans. Cacao was considered sacred and believed to be a "food of the gods" due to its healing effects and its bliss-inducing properties. The Aztecs worshiped and revered cacao so much that at one point, it was actually used as currency to buy food and supplies. After the Spanish invasion of central America, ancestral traditions like cacao ceremonies became scarce and almost non-existent as central America became colonized with Spanish culture and Catholicism. Cacao is actually a bean that comes from a tree. Similar to a coffee bean, grinding and heating is require in order for its benefits to be extracted and consumed. Because cacao is a plant medicine, many people in the wellness space consume cacao to help them through their healing process. Cacao has a female energy that is very gentle, kind, and supportive. If you are looking for alternative modalities of healing and are open to healing yourself through the foods you choose to consume, cacao is an amazing option that supports you in the process of opening and healing your heart.
