NEEDHAM, MA — All Massachusetts residents over age 16 have been eligible for the vaccine for over a week, and this week's state vaccine data provides a look into the beginning of that rollout.
Over 600 Needham residents under the age of 30 have received at least the first dose since eligibility expanded. Over 90 percent of Needham's oldest residents — people over the age of 75 — have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to the state's data. Eighty-seven percent residents ages 65 to 74 — the second oldest age group — are fully vaccinated.
About 23 percent of the town's residents have received just the first dose. Forty-eight percent of Needham residents as a whole are fully vaccinated, up from 43 percent last week.
Roughly 2.48 million people have been fully vaccinated in Massachusetts, the state reported Thursday.
Needham reported 48 cases of coronavirus in the two weeks leading up April 24 according to the state report released Thursday, placing it in the "yellow" zone.
