Julian Edwin "Cannonball" Adderley, an American jazz alto saxophonist of the hard bop era of the 1950s and 1960s, is remembered for his 1966 soul jazz single "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy," a major crossover hit on the pop charts. Nat Adderley, a jazz trumpeter, was his younger brother, and they played together many years. Nat's composition "Work Song" is a jazz standard.
