Mindfulness in the Park: A Write + Hike SeriesSee what happens to your day and your week when you begin it mindfully, outdoors in nature, at three of the most beautiful parks of Jacksonville!Join us for this live and in-person summer series! We will meet at a different park each week. Each session will begin with an introduction to the practice of mindfulness, drawing from the work of well-known teachers, including Thich Nhat Hanh, Pema Chodron, Sharon Salzberg, and Jon Kabat-Zinn. We will take a short beginner-level walk for 30 minutes on a nature trail, using all of our senses to engage in the moment fully and mindfully. The remainder of our time will be spent writing about our experience.
Week #1: The beautiful Walter Jones Historic Park along the St. John’s River in Mandarin
Week #2: Losco Regional Park, a little-known gem in the heart of Mandarin with a reflecting pond and graceful oaks draped in Spanish moss.
Week #3: The popular Jacksonville Arboretum and Botanical Gardens.
**June 29th will be used as a rain date if needed.
WHAT TO BRING: In addition to writing materials, participants should bring a water thermos, insect repellent, and a chair to sit on at the park. A notebook or journal is suggested for writing because we will not be sitting at tables. A brown bag lunch and/or snack is optional! We are a "green" community, so please avoid single-use plastics if you can. :-)
