Description

MURRIETA, CA — A brush fire that broke out Friday afternoon on Murrieta's west side was halted, but not before it destroyed an outbuilding. Shortly after 4 p.m., Murrieta Fire & Rescue asked the community to avoid the area of De Luz Road and Hayes Avenue due to a brush fire burning in the area. Dubbed the Wayne incident, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department also responded to the blaze reported at 4:08 p.m. At 5:30 p.m. Murrieta Fire & Rescue reported the non-injury blaze had been halted at 11 acres and one outbuilding was destroyed. Several homes are located in the rural area, which is at the base of the unincorporated De Luz community. Crews were expected to remain on scene for several hours to fully contain the fire. Hayes Avenue and Guava Street remained closed as crews remained working in the area. The cause of the blaze has not been determined.
