GENEVA, IL—Geneva Viking ship tours will open for the season on May 15, keeping the 128-year-old artifact in the city's limelight. In a COVID-friendly fashion, visitors will get an inside look at the ship and its inner-workings. Tour guides will enlighten guests with facts about the ship's construction, its crew, and its voyage from Norway to Chicago for the 1893 World's Fair. Visitors may even bump into a Viking (properly masked, of course)! Docent-led tours of the Viking ship begin approximately every 15 minutes by appointment. For private group tours, call (630) 302-7333. The public is invited, but tickets are required. Parking is free at Good Templar Park, 528 East Side Dr. in Geneva where tours will be held. Admission is $7 for adults and free for children 17 and younger. Tickets are required and available online at vikingship.us/tours-of-viking. Only credit cards will be accepted. Tour dates are set for: May 15, 1-4 p.m.June 20, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. (Swedish Days)July 17, 1 -4 p.m.Aug. 21, 1- 4 p.m.Sept. 18, 1-4 p.m.;Oct. 16, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.Visitors must wear cloth or medical masks inside the ship's shelter and maintain a six-foot social distance when outside family group. The ship is maintained by Friends of the Viking Ship, a St. Charles-based nonprofit that works for the preservation, public display and permanent home for the ship.
