POSITION SUMMARY The Assistant Manager at OARS Oregon is responsible for maintaining documentation and recordkeeping for the Grants Pass Outpost. The OARS Oregon Assistant Manager is also responsible for food inventory, ordering, and stocking. The OARS Oregon Assistant Manager must take an active role in learning, observing, and defining what needs to be done to be successful in this role as the tasks are dynamic and ever-changing. The OARS Oregon Assistant Manager reports to the Oregon Regional Manager. ESSENTIAL DUTIES General Responsibilities: Be on site for pre-season set-up and post-season close-down May 1-Sept 30 Attend annual staff training trip Confirm all Load day clean-up and De-rig next-day jobs complete Understanding of vehicle logistics for all trips Be familiar with OARS Field Staff Handbook, Risk Management Plan and Emergency Evacuation protocols “On Site” person when the Regional Manager is not available Emergency Contact (be available by phone at all assigned times) Manage evacuation or vehicle breakdown situation Respond to problems in buildings or on grounds Be available contact for staff Address last-minute schedule changes when Regional Manager is unavailable Assist in other operation needs as needed and directed by Regional Manager Upkeep of buildings and grounds as needed Food Management Quantify, print and submit food-buys lists Inventory, organize, shop and stock food and supplies in warehouse Order or prepare De-rig dinner when scheduled Office Responsibilities Maintain required records Collect and write weekly newsletter Update phone lists and other guide house postings Maintain and update checklists and support documents Sort, assemble and maintain trip paperwork Monitor and record pre/post crew meetings when scheduled. Alert Regional Manager to any news/concerns. Mail “Thank You Card” bundles to headquarters Secure extra permit spaces from BLM as needed Maintain complete employee on-boarding and ongoing files Provide records to Accounting Maintain vehicle documentation SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS Positive attitude with a passion for working with and leading a diverse team Empathetic and resourceful problem solver with the ability to build genuine, authentic connections with guests and co-workers Detail oriented with the ability to see the big picture Excellent personal organization and time management skills Self-starter, good follow-through Proficient with Microsoft Office & Google Drive Exceptional interpersonal skills, helping ensure positive communications with co-workers Proactive work demeanor and proficient at multitasking Highly organized in outdoor settings and in office requiring paperwork management Current Driver’s License and clean driving record; CDL a plus Knowledge of current food trends and special dietary needs a plus Multi-day river guiding experience Minimum 21 years old Fluent English WORKING CONDITIONS Physical Demands: Ability to repair items; mechanically inclined Capable of working long hours Ability to adapt to fluctuating hours of work on a daily basis Long hours sitting or standing and using office equipment and computers, which can cause muscle strain. Physically fit (must be able to lift 50 lbs) Love of the outdoors COMPENSATION Wages $15-18 per hour for 40 hours per week, with merit increases, dependent on individual and company performance, considered on an annual basis Benefits Monthly cell phone reimbursement for 5 months Company-matching ($.50 for every $1.00 contributed up to 6% of gross pay) 401(k) plan after 1 year Friends + Family discounts on OARS trips 50% reimbursement for CDL fees in 2020; Other 50% reimbursed in 2021 This position is seasonal; approximately May 1 – September 30.
