Description

Press release from the City of Eden Prairie: April 29, 2021 Hennepin County offers grants to homeowners and developers who deconstruct buildings to salvage building materials rather than demolish them. Many building materials can be salvaged for reuse or recycling to help divert waste from landfills. Commonly salvaged building materials include old growth lumber, doors, flooring, cabinets and fixtures. Compared to standard demolition, deconstructing a building project provides environmental and social benefits such as: preventing usable materials from going to the landfill making building materials available to the community providing jobs supporting local reuse retailers Deconstruction involves carefully dismantling buildings to salvage materials for reuse. A building is taken apart, mostly by hand, and materials are sorted into categories for efficient recycling and reuse. To help offset the cost of that added time and labor, homeowners and developers of residential properties can receive a grant for up to $5,000 for demolition or renovation projects.
