Press release from the City of Berkeley: April 28, 2021 Press Contact: Byron White, Public Information Officer, (510) 981-5780 TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED CATALYTIC CONVERTER THEFT Berkeley, California (Wednesday, April 28, 2021) - On April 25th at 9:45 pm, an alert resident spotted two suspects trying to steal a catalytic converter from a vehicle parked on the 2200 block of San Pablo Avenue. When the suspects realized they had been spotted, the suspects decided to drive away. As the suspects were driving from the scene, officers spotted their vehicle and detained them. When officers searched the suspect vehicle, they discovered multiple saws, wrenches, drills and pry tools. When officers inspected the vehicle they were last seen trying to take the catalytic converter from, officers found that the catalytic converter was partially cut-off. The suspects (a 42-year-old Pinole man and a 38-year-old Martinez man) were arrested on suspicion of attempted grand theft, possession of burglary tools and conspiracy.
