UPPER EAST SIDE, NY ā Police on Friday asked the public for help finding a suspect in Monday's deadly shooting on the Upper East Side ā an incident that rattled the typically tranquil neighborhood. The shooting happened shortly after 2 p.m. Monday on East 95th Street between Lexington and Park avenues. Police initially offered conflicting accounts of what happened, but later told the Daily News that the 20-year-old victim was sitting next to three others in the back of an SUV parked on the street when one pulled out a gun and shot him in the chest after a drug deal went bad. The victim was identified as Chris Delinois, a Brooklyn resident. He was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital. (Feroze Dhanoa/Patch) The unidentified suspect, who allegedly fled on foot, was captured in what appeared to be surveillance footage from near the scene of the shooting. Police described him only as a male wearing a black mask over his face, a black hooded sweater, a black jacket, blue sweatpants and black sneakers. While most categories of crime are down this year on the Upper East Side, shootings have risen in the rest of New York City. Through Sunday, 416 people had been injured or killed in shootings across the city, compared to just 242 during the same period last year ā a nearly 72 percent increase.
