Description

Natural history tour of the Tregaron Conservancy led by geologist Joe Marx Join us for a natural history tour of the Tregaron Conservancy with geologist Joe Marx. With its deep ravines, old woods, and elegant landscape architecture, Tregaron is singularly responsible for much of the environmental ambiance that defines this section of Cleveland and Woodley Parks. Tregaron is a veritable showcase of geologic and ecologic features and processes. They include outcrops of some of Washington's oldest rocks, unusually large crystals, an ancient channel of the Potomac River, and the architectural use of native building stone. Joe has taught geology at local colleges for 18 years and regularly leads tours for the Audubon Society. This leisurely hike will showcase a wide variety of natural features and will allow time for questions and discussion. Face coverings are required, and we ask that you stay home if you are not feeling well. Dogs are not permitted. Tregaron has mulched trails that are uneven in some places, with moderate elevation changes. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Weather Policy: We will go ahead in light rain but will cancel in steady, heavy rain or a serious threat of thunderstorms.
