SWAMPSCOTT, MA — Swampscott residents can get discounted rain barrels to conserve water and save money on their water bills as part of a new program.
The town is partnering with Great American Rain Barrel to provide residents with the opportunity to buy rain barrels for June pickup.
The town said the benefits of a rain barrel are that water bills decrease by up to 40 percent, they provide an alternative source of water during summer restrictions, provide a healthy, chlorine and chemical-free water source for plants and gardens, improve residential storm management, slow pollution from runoff and save energy at treatment plants through lowering demand.
Those interested in a barrel can purchase one at the discounted price of $69 for pickup on June 12 between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the Department of Public Works on Paradise Road.
The deadline to order one at the discounted price is June 3 and can be ordered here.
