JOLIET, IL — The Will County Coroner's Office identified the woman found dead of a gunshot wound Thursday as Jennifer C. Triplett, 40, of Joliet. The coroner's office said it is investigating her death as a suicide.
Triplett was pronounced dead in the 1200 block of Morgan Street.
At least a dozen members of the Joliet Police Department were on the scene investigating Thursday. Father Chris Groh, the Joliet police chaplain, was also at the scene.
Several people at the scene told Patch that a person had died of a gunshot wound inside a car parked in the driveway at a house along Morgan Street near Dwight Avenue.
Joliet Patch has reached out to Joliet Police Sgt. Dwayne English for more details about Thursday's death investigation. English notified Patch that Joliet officers responded to the house in the 1200 block of Morgan at 12:07 p.m. for a report of someone shot.
"Officers located a deceased female inside of a vehicle with an apparent self- inflicted gunshot wound. A firearm was recovered from the vehicle. The Will County Coroner's Office was summoned to the scene, and the female was pronounced deceased at the scene. Officers found no other signs of foul play," English announced.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, the coroner's office said. The final cause and manner of death will be determined after the review of police, autopsy and toxicological reports.
