Press release from the University of North Georgia: April 28, 2021 by J.K. Devine1 In March 2015, Dr. Rosaria Meek2 was introduced to the Georgia Association for Women in Higher Education3 (GAWHE) and joined. Six years later, Meek has been elected as its president for the 2021-22 academic year. Meek, assistant professor of Spanish4 at the University of North Georgia (UNG), has served as a vice president for the past two years. She said the request to serve, though, came as a surprise. "I was asked to serve for an organization that I truly believe in," she said. Part of the American Council of Education (ACE) Women's Network5, GAWHE is a volunteer-based nonprofit that focuses on the inclusivity of women in higher education. It is dedicated to providing professional support for female educators, administrators, and researchers in higher education in Georgia. "GAWHE truly is a space for everyone," Meek said. "In the coming year, we are planning more programs, both virtual and in-person, to give women in higher education much-needed networking and professional development opportunities."
