Description
GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — The driver of a recovery-center van that flipped on its side and burst into flames, killing six women, is behind bars without bond Thursday, charged with felony vehicular homicide.
Monica Manire, 32, of Byron, Georgia, was arrested Wednesday and charged with six counts of homicide by vehicle in the first degree. Manire was also charged with four felony counts of serious injury by vehicle, and a misdemeanor charge of improper lane change.
Investigators said they believe Manire made a reckless lane change from I-85 to I-985, which caused the van she was driving to flip on its side. She was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail late Wednesday afternoon.
The arrest came Wednesday, the same day all six victims were publicly identified by Gwinnett County police.
Investigators still want to talk with anyone who may have seen the accident. Witnesses are urged to call the Gwinnett County Police accident-investigation tip line at 678-442-5653.
