TUSCALOOSA, AL — Representatives from C Spire, along with Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox and Northport Mayor Bobby Herndon held an announcement event at the Tuscaloosa River Walk on Thursday as the company has started construction on fiber-based Gigabit internet access and in the county and two cities. C Spire announced in January that it would invest $1 billion to speed the development and deployment of fiber broadband and network enhancements, with about $500 million set to be spent on fiber expansion in Alabama over a five-year period.Residents in Helena, Pelham, Trussville and Jasper are also set to receive fiber internet service.
