ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — Catholic Health's Mercy Hospital is unveiling the first sunscreen dispensers across village fields and parks.
May marks Melanoma Awareness Month and the Rockville Centre hospital will install a dozen of the touch-free kiosks at no charge.
Each dispenser will hold approximately a quart of SPF 30 sunscreen, a spokesperson for Mercy Hospital said in a statement.
The dispensers will be installed by Memorial Day at locations that include the John A. Anderson Recreation Center, Lister Park and RVC Sports Complex.
Outdoor activities can increase the dangerous UV rays and can lead to skin cancer/melanoma. This is one way to keep residents safe and still enjoy the sun.
Skin cancer is the most common cancer diagnosis, but also the most preventable cancer. Each year, more than 96,000 people are diagnosed with melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer, and about 7,200 will die from the disease.
The first dispenser will be shown off Monday at the Rockville Centre Recreation Center.
