The Positions: Limited Term Employment (LTE) - Various openings We are currently seeking to hire several Utility Maintenance Assistants for the 2021 Summer season! The schedule will be 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. These seasonal positions will start at the end of May and will go through the end of August. The Utility Maintenance Assistants are responsible for supporting our maintenance crews and performing wide range of maintenance and landscaping activities at the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District's (MMSD) wastewater treatment facilities and collections system. They'll be responsible for lawn care and landscaping, snow removal, tank and equipment cleaning, painting, and providing support and assistance to other skilled trades in a safe and efficient manner. What You Will Do - Upkeep of Buildings and Grounds. Perform building maintenance including but not limited to, roof and ceiling maintenance, floor and wall repairs, painting, sewer cleaning, lamp replacement, door closure, and lock maintenance. - Perform grounds keeping duties including but not limited to, landscaping, plantings, weed control, fertilizing, mulching, lawn cutting, tree and shrubbery pruning, rodent and insect control, concrete and asphalt repairs, snow removal, and salting. - Use hand and power tools, painting, lawn mowing, snow removal, and floor and sewer cleaning equipment. - Perform general cleaning and janitorial and floor maintenance - Assist on small carpentry projects. - Perform cleaning of wet wells, basins, process tanks and manholes, cleaning of bar screens, and replacement of aeration tank diffusers. - Assist the other maintenance crews at the District. This includes work in the mechanical, electrical, sewer maintenance, and purchasing areas. - Document completed tasks in the computer system. What We Are Looking For To be successful in this job you must possess the following qualities: - Mechanical ability: Demonstrate mechanical aptitude through the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and the operation of equipment. - Excited to Learn: Show positive attitude and willingness to learn new tasks. - Adaptable: Demonstrate flexibility in the face of change, project a positive demeanor regardless of changes in working conditions. - Initiative/Motivated: Take independent action and see a project through to completion without external pressure. Enthusiastic about getting work done. Qualifications - Must possess a current and valid motor vehicle operator's license. - Prefer a high school diploma or equivalent. - Ability to follow safety procedures. - Ability to safely use hand and power tools, media blasting and painting, hoisting, rigging, landscaping tools and sewer cleaning equipment. - Basic computer and mathematics skills. - Ability to work independently or as a part of a team - Certified in confined area entry procedures, CPR, and First Aid; or may complete within the first three weeks of employment. Physical Demands and Work Environment Work is performed inside and outside the wastewater treatment facilities and at remote lift stations, with exposure to a variety of weather and working conditions. Required to use light hand tools and heavy power tools. Must be able to occasionally lift loads up to 50 pounds unassisted. Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, crouch, crawl, sit, twist, turn, climb ladders, work from scaffolding or lifting equipment, and work in very awkward positions for extended periods. Individuals in this position will work day shift but there may be a limited opportunity for overtime. Pay Positions pay $16.00 per hour.
