Description

STOUGHTON, MA — A Dorchester man surrendered to police after shooting an 18-year-old Stoughton man, according to police. The arrest stems from an April 1 shooting on Sumner Street, which caused residents on Sumner Street, Ryan Road, Cedar Street and Ash Street to shelter-in-place. Emergency officials brought the victim to a local hospital, and police said his injuries were not life-threatening. Police later obtained two arrest warrants. Working with Boston and Braintree police, officers arrested a 15-year-old boy on April 13, but Joseph Jakai Cruz, 20, remained at-large until he turned himself in to Stoughton District Court Tuesday. He was held without bail, pending a dangerousness hearing Thursday. Cruz was charged with armed assault to rob, firearm assault to murder, firearm attempted assault and battery, firearm assault and battery with a dangerous weapon with serious bodily injury, carrying a loaded firearm without a license and possession of ammunition without a license.
