EAST NORTHPORT, NY — A fund was created Tuesday to support the wife and two young children of fallen NYPD officer Anastasios Tsakos. Tsakos, 43, of East Northport, was killed early Tuesday by a woman accused of driving while drunk on the Long Island Expressway, officials said.
The "PO Tsakos fund" was launched on Fund the First, a crowdfunding site for first responders and military personnel. More than $30,000 has been raised as of Wednesday afternoon. The campaign's current goal is $100,000. It was organized by John Mantas.
"This page was created in order to help with the financial burden on officers family , I thank everyone for their support in this difficult time and please stay safe," Mantas wrote.

A 2013 Volkswagen driven by Beauvais headed east on the highway at about 1 a.m., swerved to avoid other cars, veered toward Tsakos and struck him "head-on" while he was directing traffic, NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said.
Beauvais faces a slew of charges in connection to the crash, including vehicular manslaughter.
Tsakos — a 14-year NYPD veteran — was assigned to divert traffic from the scene of a fatal single-car crash about 12:30 a.m., Shea said.
All Town of Huntington flags were directed to half-staff on Tuesday by Supervisor Chad Lupinacci in honor of Tsakos.
