Description
Webinar to Review Energy Warrant Articles at Town Meeting Medfield Environment Action MEA and the Medfield Energy Committee will be hosting another virtual webinar for Medfield residents on May 6, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. The Webinar will review the two energy warrant articles sponsored by the Medfield Energy Committee to be voted on at Town Meeting on May 17. Article #21 is Community Choice Aggregation, which is a program of buying renewable electricity in bulk for residents, businesses and town operations with potential financial savings and reductions in carbon emissions. Residents would have the opportunity to buy a higher percentage of cleaner electricity than they get now with the basic rate through a vetted supplier. Residents would have the option to opt out if they were not interested. By aggregating, a community gains leverage to negotiate better rates with competitive suppliers and to choose greener power sources. A Yes vote at Town Meeting would authorize the Town to apply to become a municipal aggregator and investigate alternative, renewable supply options. Article #22 is a Climate Goal for Medfield, which would align with the Massachusetts State Climate Goal of Net Zero by 2050 which was recently signed into law by Governor Baker. This goal would provide the framework for the town to move forward with forming a committee and developing a plan so by working together, Medfield can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, leading to Net Zero by 2050 or sooner. The goal would also be a means of measuring progress and accountability. The May 6 webinar will review both warrant articles and there will be plenty of time to get all your questions answered. Interested residents can register in advance at https://tinyurl.com/MEAWebinarSignup . Once registered, they will receive an invitation with a link to the webinar.
