MARLBOROUGH, MA — Milford's newest school was christened recently by local elected officials, capping off a years-long road to the opening of the $56 million facility. The Goodnow Brothers Elementary School opened to students in September. The building was named after three local brothers who all fought and died for the Union Army in the Civil War. City code requires any new municipal buildings, schools or parks be named after local veterans. Goodnow is Marlborough's fourth elementary school, and construction began in July 2018. The project came in about $10 million under budget, and the state School Building Authority providing about $29 million toward the construction. The school is home to about 700 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Mayor Arthur Vigeant, state Rep. Danielle Gregoire, state Sen. Jamie Eldridge, state education officials, the Marlborough School Committee and members of the Goodnow Family Association all took part in the April 21 dedication ceremony.
