HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Residents age 18 and older can receive the COVID-19 vaccination Wednesday beginning at 10 a.m. at the Meadowbrook Athletic Complex located at 5001 Meadowbrook Lane in Ellicott City. A push toward vaccinating younger adults is underway. The April 28 mass vaccination clinic requires an appointment.
"Our young people more recently became eligible to receive the vaccine and we're focusing our efforts today on our Howard County students who have not yet been vaccinated," Howard County Executive Calvin Ball said. "In Howard County, only 50 percent of residents between 18-24 have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. We're going to change that."
As of April 27, 167,222 (51.3 percent) Howard County residents have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 121,547 people (37.3 percent) have been fully vaccinated. There have been 18,835 total coronavirus cases so far as of April 27 and there are 9,614 active cases.
"We are making progress and flattened the curve this past week. Our average positivity rate is 3.8 percent and our new case rate is 13.29 per 100,000 ... We are still not out of the woods yet and we must continue to wear facial coverings, physically distance, avoid large gatherings and get tested when exposed or develop symptoms until everyone is vaccinated," Howard County Health Officer Maura Rossman said.
