Description
LANHAM, MD — Officials said an April 21 blaze rolled through one garage and four sheds in Lanham. Investigators reported that the fire started after somebody discarded burned leaves. Strong winds allowed the flames to spread quickly, the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department explained.
The blaze in the 9400 block of Worrell Avenue did not hurt anybody, a write-up advised.
"Know the rules where you live," the fire department tweeted. "The burning and discarding of yard waste is a violation of the fire code in our County."
Residents can apply for a burn permit from the Prince George's County Health Department. The county also collects yard trimmings. Call 311 for more information.
