Man Charged With Arson In Fire That Destroyed Clinton Home: PD

CLINTON, CT — A 27-year-old man has been charged with arson in connection with a fire that destroyed a home early Tuesday morning in Clinton, according to police. Emergency crews were dispatched to 82 High St. around 12:45 a.m. after multiple 911 calls reported a structure fire, according to Police Chief Vincent DeMaio. Responding crews found the two-story structure, which serves as a residential treatment facility, fully engulfed in flames, according to DeMaio. DeMaio said emergency responders quickly worked together to determine if anybody was still inside for a potential rescue. Fire crews cleared the home and were able to extinguish the fire and no injuries were reported, according to DeMaio. As firefighters battled the fire, Clinton police began investigating any possible causes of the blaze. Police quickly located and identified a suspect, according to DeMaio. DeMaio said investigators obtained a search warrant for the remains of the structure and Brandon Wyzykowski was identified as the suspect. The investigation found that Wyzykowski, a resident of the facility, was responsible for setting the fire, DeMaio said. Wyzykowski was arrested and charged with first-degree arson, first-degree reckless endangerment and first-degree criminal mischief. He was taken to Middletown Superior Court for arraignment, according to DeMaio. Clinton firefighters received mutual aid from Madison Hose Company, Killingworth Volunteer Fire Department and Old Saybrook Volunteer Fire Department, according to officials. Clinton units remained at the scene to keep water on hot spots and overhaul, according to a post on the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department's Facebook page. Officials said the "all clear" was given shortly after 5 a.m.
