LONE TREE, CO — Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree is the nation's best non-major teaching hospital, according to a new Fortune/IBM Watson Health ranking.
IBM Watson Health ranked the top 40 teaching hospitals based on Medicare cost reports, other data from Medicare providers, and patient satisfaction data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, according to the rankings' methodology.
St. Luke's University Hospital in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, was the top major teaching hospital, while Sky Ridge Medical Center is the top non-major teaching hospital.
Four other Colorado facilities also made the best non-major teaching hospitals list:
No. 4 - UC Health Poudre Valley Hospital, Fort Collins
No. 5 - Rose Medical Center, Denver
No. 14 - The Medical Center of Aurora
No. 15 - St. Joseph Hospital, Denver
Colorado's three top teaching hospitals received five stars out of five for clinical outcomes, five stars for operation efficiency, five stars for patient experience and five stars for financial health.

Fortune/IBM Watson Health also ranked the top five large, medium and small health systems in the nation. The Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, Minnesota, took the No. 1 spot among large health systems, the study found, while Edward-Elmhurst Health in Naperville, Illinois, was No. 1 among medium hospital systems and Asante, in Medford, Oregon, was the highest ranked among small hospital systems.
