Indiana State Police Seize $2M In Meth, Fentanyl During Stop

HENDRICKS COUNTY, IN — Indiana State Police seized $2 million worth of methamphetamine and fentanyl during a traffic stop Monday. A state trooped stopped a Chrysler van on Interstate 70 after noticing the driver had made an "erratic driving maneuver" and changed lanes without signaling, according to Indiana State Police Sgt. Matt Ames. While interviewing the driver and passenger, the trooped noticed "criminal indicators," which prompted a search of the vehicle. Ames declined to state what those indicators were, citing agency confidentiality on its investigative techniques, but said the driver's demeanor raised alarms for the troopers. During the search of the vehicle, the trooper found 134 pounds of meth and 90 pounds of fentanyl hidden behind the back seat of the van, Ames said. The drugs were en route from Indianapolis, Indiana, to Memphis, Tennessee, he said. The driver was identified as 32-year-old Ester Osegueda, from Porterville, California, and the passenger was 27-year-old Adam Lopez, from Tulare, California. The two were taken into custody and sent to Hendricks County Jail. The drugs will be destroyed after the investigation into the stop is completed, Ames said.
