Bomb Threat Prompts Evacuations At San Marcos High School

SAN MARCOS, CA — Authorities evacuated San Marcos High School Tuesday after a pipe bomb was reported in the area. The bomb was reported shortly before 1 p.m. at the campus at 1615 W. San Marcos Blvd., according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. Students and staff were evacuated while authorities investigated the area. "Students and staff have been evacuated away from the buildings and are safe," San Marcos Unified School District said on Twitter. Students were bussed to San Marcos Middle School at 650 W. Mission Road to be released to a parent, guardian or emergency contact. Authorities urged people to avoid the area around the high school. West San Marcos Boulevard was initially closed between South Rancho Santa Fe and Discovery Street. The roadway was reopened around 4:15 p.m., but the school remained closed to the public, according to the sheriff's department. #UPDATE San Marcos High School students are being transported via bus to San Marcos Middle School (650 W. Mission Rd.) to be released to their parents/guardians who must show ID to pick up their child.
