Description

Press release from the Wright County Government: April 27, 2021 The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced today that the deadline for Americans to be in compliance with REAL ID/enhanced driver's licenses has been pushed back a full 19 months to May 3, 2023. Originally, REAL ID compliance was set to take effect Oct. 1, 2020, but, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the deadline was pushed out to Oct. 1, 2021. The new deadline will all but assure that anyone who wants REAL ID driver's licenses, an identification card or an enhanced license will have the opportunity to get it before the extended deadline. Prior to COVID-19, on Oct. 1, 2020, if you didn't have REAL ID or an enhanced license, you would have been required to present a passport to get on a domestic airline flight or to enter certain federal facilities. Now that date is more than two years out before compliance will be mandatory.
