ELMHURST, IL — Little has changed with the Elmhurst School District 205 board. With the new term starting Tuesday, six of the seven members remain the same. Margaret Harrell, a member for eight years, decided against running again in the April 6 election. She was replaced by Athena Arvanitis, who was elected April 6. Board President Kara Caforio and member Jim Collins won re-election. At Tuesday's meeting, Caforio and member Chris Kocinski were elected by acclamation as the board president and vice president, respectively. Word beforehand was that the two would get the positions. Caforio was already board president, and Kocinski, elected in 2019, is replacing Harrell in the vice president's role. "We have had a rough year," Caforio said. "Only the seven of us, with Margaret, who served together this past year, will truly ever understand what the past 13 months have been like for us. In addition to the pandemic, we have had additional challenges we have had to navigate." She did not list those other challenges. She likely was referring to the superintendent's position. In January, then-Superintendent Dave Moyer announced he would resign June 30 to become superintendent in a New York State district. But the district announced on March 22 that Moyer, instead, would leave nine days later, three months earlier than expected. The board then appointed Linda Yonke as interim superintendent. It has since voted for Keisha Campbell as the new superintendent, starting July 1. The district serves more than 8,000 students.
