TUCSON, AZ — A 54-year-old man died in a crash just before 6 p.m. Tuesday on Tucson's east side, and police are investigating whether a street race between two pickup trucks was a factor in the crash, Tucson police said.
Timothy Michael Tengler was driving a Honda sedan when the crash occurred at the intersection of East Golf Links Road and South Sarnoff Drive, police said.
A Ford F-250 pickup truck crashed into Tengler's car; the driver was uninjured in the crash, according to police.
Police are investigating whether the pickup's speed was a factor in the crash, and charges are pending that investigation, police said.
Witnesses told police that the pickup's driver, who police have not identified, appeared to be racing another pickup truck on eastbound Golf Links Road at speeds in excess of 80 mph, according to police.
The pickup struck Tengler's car as he was making a left turn from Golf Links Road onto Sarnoff Drive, police said.
The driver of the two pickup trucks were not impaired at the time of the crash, police said.
