Description
20 week old (~5 months) Labrador Retriever available for adoption. Pure breed (AKC form for registration will be provided).
Backstory: The puppy was living in a small, crowded garage/shed with no insultation or ventilation. The previous owner also failed to fully vaccinate him. I rescued him from California on 4/21 and transported him back to Portland, OR on 4/24.
Trainability: The puppy did not have any training from previous owner. However, the puppy is a fast learner. I've been working with him on basic commands for the last few days and he now knows sit, down, and wait. (He knows sit by both verbal and hand signals). He's very food motivated and therefore easy to train. I've also been working on crate training. He does fairly well in the crate (whines for maybe 10 minutes, but then settles down). He is not fully potty trained, but I have been working with him on this and he has vastly improved.
Personality: He's very playful. Knows how to entertain himself with given toys. He also is friendly with other dogs, but still needs to learn better manners. He also seems to get along with kids. I've witnessed one encounter with a small child where he went into a sit position and let the child pet him.
Health: Seems in good health. I have a vet appointment scheduled on 5/1 to have him examined and hopefully get his first full round of vaccines. Currently weighs 56 lbs. He's a very large lab. I think he comes from a line of large, full-breed working labs.
Seeking responsible persons: preference to those who have a backyard, experience training a puppy, and have the time and energy to train a puppy, active lifestyle. I want to find a good home for him. Please provide some information on why you think you would be a good fit. Afterwards, we can arrange a meet-up.
Asking for adoption/rehoming fee to help cover some of the travel expenses, time/effort, and vet costs. Please contact me for exact cost.
