Info on Shootout Please

My senior father has announced that he would like to go to the Shootout before he “drops dead”. Does anyone know a good place to stay where we might be able to see some boat racing or boat traffic/activity from our room? He is not very mobile. I can’t figure out where the races start and stop. We are driving from Wisconsin and we just don’t know the area. We want to make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime trip. I would be most appreciative if anyone could make a recommendation.
