Why are people selling mutts for hundreds of dollars?
If you are developing a breed, taking a Yorkie and a Chihuahua and getting babies isn't a "Chorkie". What you get from that is a mutt. You would need at least 3 generations of of that (preferably not crossline), with genetic research on both sides of the line. The goal is to better the breeds, not create a bunch of sooners and act like you have something exotic because you weren't a responsible owner or wanted a quick buck.
Purebreds are typically bred that way for a reason. With an established bloodline, you can pretty much know a guestimate on temperament, work ability, etc.
If you want a mutt, rescue. If you want a specific breed, go to someone who cares about the breed.
