Moving in - good/bad areas?

Can I get some quick tips? I'll be moving to the Hickory(or closely surrounding) area from outside and I have no experience with this area. I want to know what the good and bad areas are if I'm basically just looking to avoid having to worry about my apartment getting broken into. Can't assume the best or the worst for that matter. No offense intended.
